WAIRARAPA GREEN TRADE TURNS 20

Two decades of community trade were marked with the cutting of a green cake on Saturday, as the Wairarapa Green Dollar Exchange celebrated its 20th birthday. Doing the honours was Bob Francis, Mayor of Masterton at the time the exchange was established and praised for his encouragement of the group. The group met to celebrate with a market of 26 stalls at the Wairarapa Community Centre in Dixon Street, Masterton.

WAIRARAPA GREEN DOLLARS GETS NEW CURRENCY

They say there's no substitute for cold hard cash, well there is now a new more colourful currency in town.The Wairarapa Green Dollar Exchange is introducing new cash notes that can be used to purchase local products and services. Spokesperson for the exchange, Hayden McGrail says getting the vouchers printed has been a real thrill for the whole organisation.

"We are excited about the potential that the vouchers have to involve and benefit the Wairarapa as now non-members can participate in our community currency for the first time."
